Undergraduate Education Rooted in Research Excellence

The undergraduate programme at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) was introduced relatively recently compared to its long history. Although IISc was established in 1909 as a premier centre for postgraduate education and research, it opened its doors to undergraduate students only in 2011 with the launch of the Bachelor of Science (Research) programme. This marked a significant shift in the institute’s academic vision, aiming to nurture scientific curiosity and research aptitude at an early stage. The UG programme is designed to be interdisciplinary, providing strong foundations in basic sciences along with early exposure to research, reflecting IISc’s core philosophy of advancing science and innovation.
